The guava is a small tree in the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, nowadays they are cultivated in many tropical and subtropical countries. The apple-sized pear fruits with green skin and white or red pulp grow on trees up to 13 m high. The pulp is soft with a sweet-sour aromatic taste, comparable to strawberries or pears. Guavas contain pectins, mineral nutrients and micronutrients iron, calcium, and phosphorus as well as the vitamins A and C. They have 6 times as much vitamin C as an orange.
